About The Blue Recipe Tin
The Blue Recipe Tin gets its name from an old blue English biscuit tin that has been in my family’s kitchen as long as I can remember. Inside is a collection of handwritten recipes and newspaper clippings my family saved over many years.
I’m Lara, and I grew up in the Deep South, where I learned to bake from my family. Baking was part of holidays, church gatherings, and everyday life—and eventually became something I loved doing myself.
I started The Blue Recipe Tin to preserve the recipes I inherited and to share the kind of Southern sweets I genuinely enjoy making. Not every recipe on this site will come from the tin, and I’m not going to pretend that it does. Some will be family recipes, and I’ll share what I know about their history. Others will be Southern classics, church cookbook favorites, seasonal desserts, or recipes I’ve developed in my own kitchen. One blue tin can only hold so much.
You’ll find cakes, pies, cookies, candies, cobblers, old-fashioned desserts, and probably more than a few things baked in cast iron. I want the recipes here to be dependable, approachable, and clear enough for new bakers to follow confidently.
Recipes can hold memories of holidays, family gatherings, and people we miss. But sometimes a cake is worth making simply because it’s a really good cake. I think there’s room for both.
I hope you find something here worth baking, sharing, and perhaps saving in a recipe tin of your own. Sharing is encouraged, but optional.
